Tracking sources
Orbex Data ingests tracking data from carrier APIs, port community systems, AIS vessel feeds, airline cargo networks, and ELD providers for trucking. Events deduplicate across sources so your timeline shows one authoritative milestone per checkpoint.
| Mode | Primary source | Fallback |
|---|---|---|
| Ocean FCL | Carrier API + terminal | AIS + schedule |
| Ocean LCL | Co-loader feed | Master bill tracking |
| Air | Airline cargo API | Flight status correlation |
| Road | Carrier ELD / TMS | Manual checkpoint |
Shipment detail page
The shipment detail page consolidates timeline, documents, parties, legs, containers, exceptions, and activity feed. Operators pin frequently used shipments for quick access from any screen.
- Timeline: chronological milestones with planned vs. actual timestamps
- Legs: per-segment carrier, vessel or flight, and equipment
- References: house bill, master bill, booking, container, and PO numbers
- Activity: comments, assignments, and system-generated events
Copy customer summary
Use the Share status action to generate a plain-language update suitable for email—includes last milestone, current ETA, and open items.
ETA prediction
When carriers stop publishing updates during transshipment or port congestion, Orbex Data estimates arrival using historical lane transit times, current vessel position, and port dwell benchmarks. Predicted ETAs display with a confidence indicator.
Predicted ETAs are operational aids, not contractual delivery dates. Communicate source and confidence to customers when sharing externally.
Manual updates
Operators with appropriate permissions can add manual milestones when carrier data lags—common for niche feeders or drayage legs. Manual events are clearly labeled and require a reason code for audit purposes.
Reason codes
- Carrier feed delayed
- Confirmed by phone or email
- Customer-provided proof of delivery
- Broker or warehouse confirmation
Customer visibility
Optional customer portals expose a subset of milestone data and documents to shipper or consignee users. You control which fields, milestones, and document types are visible per customer account.
